標(biāo)題: When I'm free 和 If I'm free, 意思居然差了十條街,！
比如哪天一個(gè)外國(guó)人要你做什么事,，你回答，"I'll take care of it when I am free this afternoon."
結(jié)果到了晚上,，你要是還沒(méi)有處理,，外國(guó)人就會(huì)來(lái)找你了。
你可能會(huì)很委屈,，“我只是說(shuō)我有時(shí)間的話(huà)會(huì)處理,，又沒(méi)說(shuō)我一定會(huì)處理�,！�
而其實(shí)在外國(guó)人眼里,，這句話(huà)并不是這個(gè)意思，而是,，“你會(huì)有時(shí)間,，你一定會(huì)處理”。
之所以會(huì)出現(xiàn)這種誤會(huì),，是因?yàn)槲覀儗?duì)when的理解不到位,。
when是必然發(fā)生（will happen）；if是可能發(fā)生（might happen）
I'll take care of it when I am free this afternoon.（今天下午我有時(shí)間,，我會(huì)處理,。）→一定有時(shí)間
I'll take care of it if I am free this afternoon.（如果我今天下午有時(shí)間，我就會(huì)處理,。）→可能有時(shí)間,，可能沒(méi)時(shí)間
天氣放晴的話(huà)，我們就去展覽會(huì)場(chǎng),。
（X）We may go to the fair, when the weather is bright and sunny.
（√）We may go to the fair, if the weather is bright and sunny.
人不能主宰天氣,，不能決定天氣是否會(huì)晴，所以要用if強(qiáng)調(diào)不一定,。
如果我老了,，我會(huì)和我的孩子一起生活。
（X）If I am old, I'd love to live with my kids.
（√）When I am old, I'd love to live with my kids.
人老是自然規(guī)律,，必然發(fā)生,。
還有一個(gè)和when， if類(lèi)似的詞語(yǔ),，是in case（萬(wàn)一）,。
「萬(wàn)一」比「如果」的語(yǔ)氣更強(qiáng)烈,，更多了一些擔(dān)心，希望它不要發(fā)生,。
I need painkillers if I'm in severe pain.
如果我疼到難以忍受的話(huà),，我需要止痛藥。
I need painkillers in case I'm in severe pain.
萬(wàn)一我疼到難以忍受的話(huà),，我需要止痛藥,。
